Guwahati, November 11: Ten suspected militants were killed and one CRPF jawan seriously injured in a fierce gunbattle on Monday afternoon in Jakurador, 30 km away from Jiribam located under the Borobekra sub-division of Jiribam district in Manipur.

The incident occurred during a confrontation between security forces and the militants in the area. The encounter resulted in a heavy exchange of gunfire, leading to casualties.

One CRPF jawan, identified as Constable Sanjeev Kumar, sustained a bullet injury and was evacuated to Silchar Medical College in Assam, where he is under medical treatment.

According to Manipur Police, 'A thorough search of the area revealed ten dead bodies of armed militants, along with a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, including AK-series rifles, self-loading rifles (SLRs), INSAS rifles, an RPG launcher, a pump-action gun, bulletproof helmets, and several magazines were found from the spot.

The violence began around 2:30 pm, when militants, armed with sophisticated weapons and wearing camouflage uniforms, emerged from their hideouts.

They first fired several rounds toward the Borobekra police station before moving toward Jakurador Karong, where they carried out arson.They set fire to several shops, targeted a local area, and attacked a CRPF camp situated in Jakurador Karong, triggering intense gunfire.

At least ten shops belonging to the Meitei community were set ablaze by suspected militants in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Monday. The bodies of the deceased militants have been recovered and taken to the Borobekra police station for further investigation.

In the aftermath of the attack, authorities reported that five civilians remain missing. It remains unclear whether they were abducted by the retreating militants or are hiding after the violence erupted. Security forces have launched an operation to locate the missing individuals.

Authorities have intensified security measures in the district to prevent further violence and are monitoring the situation closely. Additional forces have been deployed to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of residents in the region.

The identities of the deceased militants have not yet been confirmed, and investigations are underway to gather more information about the incident. Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the gunfire, the district administration has imposed a curfew in Jiribam.

In a statement released shortly after the incident, the administration expressed concerns over potential widespread disturbances to peace, public tranquility, or the possibility of a riot or affray in the area. The statement further clarified that the curfew order takes effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice.

In another incident a farmer working in the fields in Manipur's Imphal East district sustained injuries when militants opened fire from nearby hilltop positions on Monday morning, police said.

This was the third consecutive day of hills -based militants attacking farmers working in the fields in Imphal Valley in ethnic conflict-hit Manipur. Officials said the attacks are affecting the harvesting of paddy crops as many farmers in the periphery areas of the valley are feeling afraid to go to the fields.

In the latest incident, militants from hilltop positions in adjacent Kangpokpi district fired towards farmers working in paddy fields in Yaingangpokpi Shantikhongban area in Imphal East district around 9.20 am, in which a farmer sustained pellet injuries on his hand, a police officer said.

In Jiribam area, at least ten shops belonging to the Meitei community were set ablaze by suspected militants in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Monday.

Police said suspected Kuki militants set fire to at least ten shops belonging to the Meitei community in Jakuradhor Karong, under Borobekra police station in the district. Locals said the attacks took place within 100 meters of the police station, raising questions about the effectiveness of security forces.

The violence escalated on Sunday night with the detonation of an IED that destroyed a house in Lamtai Khunou. Additionally, a Forest Beat office and a Farmer’s Cooperative Society office were set ablaze.

In a separate incident, Soibam Presagar, a 35-year-old resident of Madhupur village, was abducted and brutally assaulted by armed militants. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Jiribam District Hospital.
