Amid Prophet row, video shows Muslim fakirs threatened in Uttar Pradesh
The insults were allegedly over their religion.
Lucknow: In an unsavoury incident, two Muslim Sufi nomads and a youth were bullied and heckled in a village in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh. The youths forced the Muslim men to chant Jai Shree Ram and asked them to touch their ears and take a vow never to return to Gonda.
The incident occurred when the three Muslim men sought voluntary donation for an annual event which is held to commemorate the services of a Sufi saint at a nearby ‘mazaar.’
While roaming in the village, they were confronted by the youths who asked them to explain how they dared to visit an upper caste Hindu dominated area.
The youths also asked them to produce their Aadhar card and other identity related documents. When they failed to do so, the youths took them to task. There have been similar incidents in the state in the past, too.
