Acute cardiac insufficiency (heart failure) is cardiac asthma (pulmonary oedema). Most frequently it arises as a complication of high arterial pressure and/or (myocardial infarction). It is an extremely dangerous condition that happens because you don’t have enough blood flow to some of your heart muscle. This lack of blood flow can occur because of many different factors but is usually related to a blockage in one or more of your heart’s arteries.

A silent heart attack is one that has no symptoms, mild symptoms or symptoms people don’t connect to a heart attack. But it’s still a heart attack (myocardial infarction), which means your heart isn’t getting enough blood flow and oxygen. This injures your heart.

Silent heart attacks can injure your heart just like a more obvious heart attack can. But if you don’t know you’re having a heart attack, you may not get the medical help you need to limit the damage. This is why it’s important to make time to pay attention to how you’re feeling. Researchers estimate that 22% to 60% of all heart attacks are silent. Silent heart attacks may be more common in people who are assigned female at birth (AFAB) or have diabetes.

Prevention is better than cure. Get started with these eight tips to boost your heart health:

Don't smoke or use tobacco

Get moving -- aim for at least 30 to 60 minutes of activity daily

Eat a heart-healthy diet to improve blood pressure and cholesterol, and lower the risk of type 2 diabetes

Reduce salt or high-sodium meals, and trans fat

Maintain a healthy weight

Get quality sleep

Manage stress

Get regular health screening tests

There is also a simple Mudra known as Apan Vayu Mudra for prevention of heart problems and its practising methods are shown on YouTube by many experts. A simple treatment for strengthening functioning of heart and lungs is to paste three cluster magnets on heart and lungs corresponding area as shown in the diagram (see figure).

Since the bouts usually happen at night the sufferer has to be made to sit or stand if the person suffers from rapid heartbeat, and the skin becomes pale and cyanotic.

Before medical aid arrives, an attempt could be made in giving first aid by Sujok therapy. Try to help seat the patient comfortably with the legs lowered. Then rubber bands should be loosely applied to the bases of his third and fourth fingers that correspond to legs (as shown in figure given) to retain some blood to the lungs. Massage the area corresponding to the heart. A video showing the treatment is on www.artofselfhealing.in.
