Radhika Madan Wants To Tackle Edgy Roles With Emotions
Radhika Madan talks about how filmmakers like Vishal Bharadwaj have influenced her approach and more.
Radhika Madan, who gears up for her upcoming release Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video feels that she has always maintained a right balance while choosing a script. In an exclusive candid chat with The Free Press Journal, she talks about how filmmakers like Vishal Bharadwaj have influenced her approach and more. Excerpts:
Lately, your roles have been quite edgy. Where did you get that courage from?
It is not about the courage, it is about the very core reason of why I became an actor. I became an actor different lives, since I easily get bored of being Radhika. When I sign up for a role, it is kind of a reminder to myself.
How difficult was it for you to do films that are arthouse in nature but also has commercial appeal to it?
I feel, such things aren’t in my hands. Initially, the choices I made as an actor had certain reasons attached to it, like working with Vishal (Bharadwaj) ji mattered. Currently, I have a luxury of choices. I am very grateful for all the filmmakers who trusted me as an artist. Also, if a project won’t work in my favour today, I can take the responsibility too for it. Vasan Bala, Homi Adajania and Vishal ji change my perception towards art. And, because of them, I started approaching all other projects in a similar fashion.
What are your thoughts on having a commonality between characters off late?
I am a very different girl in Kacchey Limbu and Angrezi Medium, even in Sajini Shinde… for that matter. All these characters are meek, soft and vulnerable unlike the edgy and feisty roles. I do not want to play only fearless roles but also want to tackle them with emotions.
Sajini Shinde… being a thriller, how far do you think it stands out in today’s time?
More than a thriller, it is an important story to tell in the day and age of social media. The validation we seek here is the biggest one and there are repercussions to it. With my film, the story came first and genre came in much later. It happened to became a social thriller. The title of the film is so relevant to what is happening today.
How important is social media to you being a public figure?
I am honestly not very good with my social media accounts. I really don’t feel pressurised to put stuff there timely. I only post anything when I have to connect with my fans else it doesn’t come organically to me. I love connecting with my fans. The only motivation to be on social media is them.
