Android Marshmallow Gives Us So Much more!

We have been guessing for months now, and finally we have a name! Google recently announced the name of its next Android iteration, and it is named after a treat we all love – Marshmallow. Following in the footsteps of their preceding love for candy and all things sweet, Marshmallow was already a highly speculated name. But what more could you expect after names such as – Cupcake, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, and Lollipop.

The company came out with the name on its developer’s blog and also released the final Android 6.0 SDK should be available to download through the SDK Manager on Android Studio. This will allow you to access final Android APIs and the latest in build tools.

“Today with the final Developer Preview update, we’re introducing the official Android 6.0 SDK and opening Google Play for publishing your apps that target the new API level 23 in Android Marshmallow,” Jamal Eason, Product Manager, Android writes in a blogpost.


The Marshmallow update mainly showcases incredible stability and performance improvements. The update will show new features like Android Pay, Tap on Now, new app permissions model etc. You can rely on the Marshmallow bringing quite a few new things to the technological table. Features like the fingerprint scanner and doze power saving and available. Not to mention Marshmallow also offers a new permissions model.

Google Play is now ready to accept API 23 apps through the Google Play Developer Console. The Google Play store will be updated at the consumer launch later this year. This will then allow the app install and update process to support the new permissions model for apps using API 23.

In order to install the Google Now launcher for Android 6.0 Marshmallow launcher apk, as a google user you would need to their handset’s Settings page and tap on ‘Unknown Sources’ which comes under the Security option. This will help you side load the installation file. It is a total of 14.5MB and is compatible with devices running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and later OS versions.
