Mumbai: Four arrested for lynching suspected thief in Malwani


Mumbai: Four people have been arrested by Malwani police for allegedly murdering a man whom they suspected to be a bike thief on Monday. The victim was tied to a tree near a ice factory and lynched to death. The accused attacked the victim with bamboo sticks. The accused were nabbed after the police retrieved the CCTV footage of the incident. The video showed the man loitering about near the factory in the wee hours of Monday.

When the victim tried to fiddle with a bike parked there, the locals raised an alarm. A group of men grabbed him and started thrashing him. They tied him to the tree and kept hitting him. Factory workers found the man’s body with injury marks all over. One of the workers called the police. The accused have been booked for murder (Section 302), punishment for wrongful confinement (Section 342) and rioting (Section 142) of the Indian Penal Code. Senior PI Deepak Phatangare, Malwani police station, said, “We registered an FIR and arrested the four accused.”
