In the latest development in Bollywood actress Jiah Khan’s death probe, the late actress’ mother Rabia Khan has filed an application in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court to frame charges against Sooraj Pancholi. Rabia has stated that she is in possession of evidence that will prove her daughter’s death was a murder and not a suicide. Sooraj Pancholi, Jiah’s then boyfriend, was earlier arrested and charged with abetment to suicide. The charges were dropped after the CBI concluded that Jiah’s death was a suicide.
In February, the Bombay High Court rejected Rabia’s plea seeking a SIT probe in the case. The court said that the CBI and Mumbai city police have looked into the case from multiple angles during their probe and a fresh investigation would be futile.
Rabia had previously remarked on the court’s observations by pointing out many discrepancies in the evidences presented by the CBI. She had also asked for the intervention of FBI in intercepting the transcripts of Jiah’s mobile phone chat conversations from the server. Rabia had also pointed out factual inaccuracies.
Jiah was found hanging in her room on June 3, 2013. A week later, the Juhu police arrested Sooraj Pancholi for abetment to suicide.
The CBI took over the probe from Maharashtra police on the Bombay High Court’s orders. Rabia Khan had moved the High Court, alleging that her daughter had been murdered and demanding that the CBI probe the matter.
